Understanding the Procedure
Porcelain veneers are incredibly thin, tooth-colored shells that cover the front surfaces of the teeth. With a choice between ceramic veneers and resin-based composite veneers, you can benefit from a personalized care plan that will drastically improve your smile. When cared for properly, these enhancements can keep your teeth looking new and beautiful for many years.
During your visit, one of our dentists will administer a local anesthetic and remove a very small amount of your enamel in order to make room for the veneer. An impression of your teeth will be made and sent off to a dental laboratory where your porcelain veneers will be created based on detailed instructions given by your doctor. In some cases, temporary veneers may be put in place to maintain the aesthetics of your smile, but your permanent veneers will return to our office in one or two weeks.
During your second appointment, your veneers will be tried on to test their fit and color. Your tooth will be cleaned, polished, and roughened to create a proper bonding surface, and the porcelain veneer will be cemented in place. A follow-up visit may be suggested so that your dentist can examine how your bite and gums are adapting to the veneer. Additionally, you will be given a thorough explanation of how best to care for your porcelain veneers in order to achieve the most satisfactory results.
